This newborn and family lifestyle session was a dream! Thank you to this lovely mama for allowing me to have creative control here. She was up for just about anything, and I could not be happier with how their family and newborn photos turned out!

I'm not gonna lie here; newborn photos used to scare the heck out of me! I used to get really anxious thinking about it. My OLD way of doing newborn photos had a lot of ....baggage. I used to bring a backdrop stand, backdrop clips, posing bean bag, a heater, white noise, lighting equipment, absurd amount of blankets, swaddle blankets, props (oh so many props!), baskets, headbands, outfits, etc. It really was 2 giant totes plus my camera bag in my car.

I also used to get anxious about how to pose the baby. You see, it's quite difficult (well, for me at least) to try to keep a baby sleeping while swaddling and posing them. In order to keep a baby calm, quiet, and asleep, there are a lot of behind the scenes things that have to take place.

The baby must be fed, but also must have a clean diaper, be warm, and calm, or else you risk the dreaded WAKE UP! You might be surprised with how often some babies wake when they have the tiniest bit of a dirty diaper. Making sure all the stars aligned to have a quiet space, warm baby, fed baby, calm baby, clean baby, calm mama, posed baby, and sleeping baby, made for a really anxious photographer.

Keep in mind this would go on for 3-4 hours!

Yes, these sessions take that long because you never want anyone to feel rushed. And, sometimes it takes that long to get into a rhythm and get those shots you need.

Don't get me wrong, I love the froggy newborn poses. I just know those posed photos are not for me. My anxiety would project on my clients, and plus, I'm just not that good in photoshop. Kudos to all the photographers that specialize in this type of photography...because it's hard!

The absolute best thing I could have ever done was to stop this madness and switch to lifestyle newborn sessions. OH the relief!

Finally, I can get more organic, natural photos of my clients. I get to capture those candid moments (which I'm a HUGE sucker for) between loved ones, and that is my JAM!

This family holds a special place in my heart. Not only are we friends, but I LOVE their son's personality. Any kiddo with a personality is a friend of mine! You can see him shine in these photos. His little sister is so beautiful and perfect, and I love watching him love on her.

I love editing because I get to relive the session each time I edit a photo.

Flowers, milk baths, lace, babies, breastfeeding, family, bright light, casual environment, laughter, love, crazy kiddos all over the place... it's my happy place.
